Guest Sketch Artist: Zaira Ivette

Zaira had always been interested in documenting events and moments of life, but she formally went into modern scrapbooking in 2000, while trying to finish her degree in visual communication (she actually did). She taught scrapbooking classes for seven years back in her native Puerto Rico (when the concept of sketches had not shown into the market yet), and wrote her first scrapbooking article in 2002. In 2006, Zaira started her first scrapbooking blog, Scrapbook Latino, that evolved to become the current Hacer Scrapbooks. ("Hacer" is Spanish for "to make".) In 2010, she wrote her very first scrapbooking e-booklet for the Spanish speaking market. Zaira now lives in Florida, USA.

Zaira has been following 4x6 Photo Sketch since early 2009, when she read about it on a now-closed YahooGroup.

  1. Amy, I want to thank you for the chance of sharing my little sketch with your readers. I have to confess I am a bit "starstruck", since I love your blog and your concep of scrapbooking with uncropped 4x6 photos.

I am not an "4x6 exclusive" scrapbooker, but I usually do work from 4x6s. As a scrapbooking instructor, I honestly think this is the best apporach for newbies, and then later they can get into cropping and even enlarging photos.

Once again, thanks a lot for your kindness, and I hope your readers find my collaboration useful.

  6. Thanks Sony & Jannette for the visit. I do believe that sketches are one of the most valuable tools for scrapbookers. I use them on almost all my layouts, and wish more people (especially new scrapbookers) were able to take advantage of those.

  8. Thanks Ruthy & Ruthie Lopez! I'm glad that you liked my sketch... and it means you'll love Amy's ones! (I really do!)

Once again, I think sketches for uncropped 4x6 photos are the best way to get started in scrapbooking, and also the best way to get pages done if you feel "overwhelmed" or if you need to get "caught up". I do believe we scrapbookers have, over the years, made our craft a lot more complicated and mysterious than it really is. Amy's sketches (and similarly no-fuss ones) are a very needed answer to people wanting to have a more back-to-basics approach. These are also flexible enough for the more experienced scrapbooker to play with and adapt them to a different need/level.
