I need your opinion!

I've heard some say that they like certain sketch artists because they include size measurements of the papers with the sketch.  Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do all of that with teaching full time during the school year and then doing training sessions in the summer.  So, I come up with some other ideas that might help.

I make all my sketches on graph paper. So I could also post my drawing (ignore the "X" on the pic as I always cross them out when I have created them on the computer), although sometimes I make changes to it as it goes to a digital format. For this particular sketch, I moved the pictures apart a little bit.

#1 - Sketch

I could also put this grid over the top of it.

#2 - Grid Overlay

Or I can put a grid behind it.

#3 - 1/4 in grid

#4 - 1 in grid

I would also ALWAYS include the original digital sketch, but would one of these other options help you out when using the sketch?  Please post what number(s) you would like to see whenever a sketch is posted.

  3. I guess I'm also going with #2. Your layouts are my absolute favorites because they're so easy to make!!! Hope you're having a great summer.

  4. I prefer #2 with the grid overlay. But I also don't have a problem with your great sketches the way you have been doing it. Thank you!

  6. I would say I am happy with the way you currently post your sketches - I also just like to wing it and not be tied to exact measurements, as often on a layout you need to be flexible depending on the papers you choose, embellishments etc. Love your layouts.

  7. I like it when designers give the info for ALL the measurements. And when the sketches don't have them, I take them to my image processing program and find out the measurements.

Have you ever seen a sketch with all the measurements on them? Those are so confusing! I think everybody else like your option #2, so that will work.

  11. whatever is easiest for you works for me - I print my own photos at home so I use the 4x6 as mats instead of the picture then sometimes change a photo to a 5x7 - you give great ideas - thank you very much for helping us otherwise my albums would basicly all look the same with different color papers

  15. I like option #3, but usually just eyeball it as well. I think since your blog is name 4X6 sketch blog, we know what size the pics are lol. And the papers are pretty easy to eyeball. Unless of course, you are anal. In which case, #3 seems to help the most to me lol.

  17. I'm one of those "guess-timators) as well, but I like #4 the best...looks like I'm losing out to #2, but I find that one too much over the layout...would it be ok to post it two different ways...one with no measurements for us guesstimators and one with gridlines...we are needy aren't we?

  18. #4, or even no grid at all. I frequently modify sketches anyway, and have no need for exact measurements.

  19. I don't really need the measurements but if I were to choose the one I like best then it would be #2

  20. It looks like #2 is the winner!

  21. I just found your sketches and love them. I almost always scrap with 4x6 so these are terrific! No grid seems better for me. :) Thanks for your wonderful inspiration!

  22. Hi! I just found your blog on the panicking morning of my first all-day crop, last-minute invitation with new people - aagh! After being up till stupid o'clock last night printing plain ole 6x4 photos, I think your blog may have just saved my life. Thank you!

I'm a wing-it person (can ya tell?!) and 6x4 divides into 12x12 easily so the measurements don't bother me. Graph "paper" is always useful though.

I have made sketches before using 1":1cm with post-its on graph paper. Easy to move around and details can be sketched around them.

Good luck with the blog, and thanks again!
